Reaching the Eastern Conference Finals wasn’t enough for the New York Knicks. Following another elimination by the Indiana Pacers, they chose to part ways with Tom Thibodeau.

It was a somewhat surprising decision, and there will be no shortage of candidates looking to jump on board and bring back hope to Madison Square Garden.

With that in mind, Tom Haberstroh of Yahoo Sports pointed to John Calipari as a potential candidate, as he’s already coached in the NBA and in the same area, and he has a close relationship with fellow former Wildcat Karl-Anthony Towns.

The Knicks could make a run at John Calipari

“There’s a man who knows how to win with Karl-Anthony Towns. This man also won an NBA Coach of the Year award and also happens to know what it’s like to hold an NBA coaching job in the Tri-State area. Step right up, John Calipari!”wrote Haberstroh.

John Calipari

He might be talking about the NABC Coach of the Year award, which he’s won three times and as recently as in 2015. Whatever the case, he’s certainly an intriguing coach.

Then again, given how things ended for the Knicks this season, they might not be interested in hiring anybody from the college basketball scene, not even a legend like Calipari.
