Last year, the Detroit Lions fell short of expectations. Now, ahead of the 2025 NFL season, Amon-Ra St. Brown has made it clear what everyone should expect from the NFC North club.

In recent seasons, the Lions have managed to build a competitive roster around quarterback Jared Goff. He’s taken the team to a new level—yet ultimate success has still eluded Detroit during his tenure.

In 2021, the same year Jared Goff joined the team, the Lions drafted Amon-Ra St. Brown. The talented wide receiver has significantly boosted the offense and firmly believes they’re ready for something bigger.

Amon-Ra St. Brown believes the Lions are top Super Bowl contenders

In recent years, head coach Dan Campbell has completely transformed the Lions. Once viewed as perennial underachievers, the franchise is now considered a legitimate threat in the NFC.

Campbell has brought in key pieces to build a well-rounded, competitive roster. On offense, Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown have emerged as the primary leaders—a QB-WR duo that poses a serious threat to any defense.

However, last season’s playoffs delivered a shocking twist. The Lions secured the No. 1 seed in the NFC and entered the postseason as top contenders. But in a stunning upset, the Washington Commanders eliminated them in the Divisional Round.

That loss has sparked a mindset shift among many Lions players—especially Amon-Ra St. Brown. The wideout has now set the record straight on the team’s expectations: it’s Super Bowl or bust.

“At this point, we want to win a Super Bowl; that’s it,” Amon-Ra St. Brown said, via Eric Woodyard of ESPN. “Obviously, we’ve got to make the playoffs to win the Super Bowl, but that’s understood by everyone, so, we want to win the Super Bowl. Plain and simple.”

Have the Detroit Lions ever played in a Super Bowl?

Despite being one of the NFL’s oldest franchises—established in 1930—the Detroit Lions have never reached the Super Bowl. Alongside the Browns, Jaguars, and Texans, they remain one of the few teams to have never appeared in the big game.

Like the Browns, however, the Lions did experience success before the Super Bowl era. Both teams have four NFL Championships to their name, though those titles are not officially counted in the modern Super Bowl era.
