Lions HC Dan Campbell chooses not to worry about what he can’t control ahead of 2025 NFL season

The experienced Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell knows there are things that will be beyond his control heading into the 2025 NFL season.

Dan Campbell’s extensive experience in the NFL has taught him that there are things he can manage — and others that are clearly out of his hands. While many might worry excessively about those uncontrollable factors, the Detroit Lions head coach prefers to focus his energy on what he can actually control.

What are these aspects? The ever-dreaded injuries. While proper physical preparation can help minimize the risk, the nature of this contact sport means that, in the blink of an eye, a serious injury can sideline any player for the entire season.

That’s why, in recent remarks to the media, Campbell was clear when addressing these types of setbacks — stating, in his own words, that he’s not concerned about them at all.

“There’s not a damn thing we could do about injuries. Nobody can,” Campbell said via nbcsports.com. I’m not worried, and the things you would worry about are the things every team would worry about, injuries. If we have another 20 injuries, yeah, that’s an issue, but there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Campbell chooses not to worry

Injuries aren’t the only reason Dan Campbell chooses not to shift his focus. Other topics — such as changes to his coaching staff or even the assigned NFL schedule — aren’t enough to distract the Lions’ head coach from what truly matters.

“I’m not worried that we don’t have pass rush, I’m not worried that we lost two coordinators, I’m not worried about injuries, I’m not worried about the Hall of Fame Game, I’m not worried about the schedule,” he said.

“I think it’s perfect. I think it lines up perfect. I think it’s gonna be what’s best for us with where we’re at going into 2025, my fifth year, the corps of the team’s fifth year. I really think it’s exactly what we’re going to need. The timing is perfect.”

What can we expect from the Lions next season?

Dan Campbell and Jared Goff are entering the 2025 season with one goal in mind: reaching the Super Bowl. After falling short last year with a painful home loss to the Commanders, the Lions are hungry to take the next step.

Detroit will face a tough road in a competitive NFC North. With the Vikings, Packers, and Bears all improving, every divisional game will carry major playoff implications.

The Lions will also need to adjust to key coaching changes following the departures of defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. How quickly the team adapts could define their season.
