While Mayfield didn’t immediately inspire full confidence, he quickly earned the team’s trust with a series of impressive performances. Now considered a solid starter, the front office is looking to surround him with more weapons to elevate the offense even further.

Buccaneers eye speedy wide receiver to help Baker Mayfield

When Tampa Bay signed Baker Mayfield, many fans were skeptical of his ability to succeed. After an up-and-down stint with the Browns, Panthers, and Rams, Mayfield hadn’t yet established himself as a consistent starter.

But in Tampa, Mayfield found the perfect environment to prove himself. Tasked with the daunting challenge of replacing Tom Brady, he not only stepped up but exceeded expectations.

With the Buccaneers fully behind him, the next step is to boost the talent around him. To that end, the team is looking to add a dynamic receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Matthew Golden recently shared on social media that he is in Tampa Bay visiting the Buccaneers. Golden turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine, clocking the fastest 40-yard dash among wideouts with a blazing 4.29 time.

Tampa Bay currently holds the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and they are expected to use it on a wide receiver. However, if Golden continues to rise up draft boards—as many project him as a top-three prospect at his position—they may need to trade up to land him.
