Travis Kelce isn’t done yet. When many thought the 2024 NFL season would be his last with the Kansas City Chiefs, the veteran tight end decided to run things back for at least another year with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

Speaking to reporters at the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, Kelce addressed his decision to come back for a 13th NFL season, making it clear that his motivation to continue succeeding with Reid and Mahomes is still through the roof.

Apart from letting everyone know that he has no intention of wearing another uniform, Kelce left the door open on extending his career in Kansas City beyond 2025, though he won’t think about it until the season is over.

“I can’t envision myself playing anywhere else,” Kelce said after explaining he’ll talk to the Chiefs‘ front office about is future once he finishes playing the year left on his contract, via Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

Kelce’s decision to push retirement from the NFL

This is great news for Chiefs Kingdom, who will get to see Mahomes and Kelce create havoc on the field for at least another season. Fans have reasons to appreciate the duo even more in 2025, considering how strongly Kelce was linked to retirement this offseason.

I love football. I really thought about it that much. . . I love coming into work every single day. It wasn’t a hard decision. I know I’m getting older, but I still like I’ve got a lot to prove in this league,” Kelce said on how much he thought about calling it a career.

Kelce, Chiefs hungry for redemption

Of course, the outlook could’ve been different if it wasn’t for the brutal loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. Kelce admitted earlier in the offseason that the lopsided result played a part in his decision to come back, knowing that it wasn’t the way to step away from the gridiron.

Even after winning three Super Bowl rings together, Kelce may feel there’s unfinished business with Mahomes and Reid at Arrowhead. Only time will tell whether the 2025 season proves enough for the tight end.
