Gervonta “Tank” Davis, known as much for his knockout power in the ring as for his fiery personality, has once again made headlines—this time for his outspoken hostility toward Turki Alalshikh, the influential head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. This clash comes at a surprising time, as Davis had been displaying uncharacteristically courteous and respectful behavior toward his opponent, Lamont Roach Jr., and Roach’s mother during the press conference ahead of his WBA lightweight title bout in Brooklyn.
The root of the conflict traces back to Alalshikh’s decision to exclude Davis from THE RING magazine awards show in London. This snub did not sit well with the Baltimore boxer, who quickly took to social media to express his fury. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Davis launched a direct attack on Alalshikh:
“Why didn’t you invite everyone? But you invited the people you deal with… (expletive) you! Stop eating (expletive),” he wrote with palpable anger.
Turki Alalshikh’s response was measured, stating that, despite the controversy, his organization remained open to doing business with Davis, particularly regarding a potential fight against Shakur Stevenson.
The tension escalated hours before Davis’ bout with Roach, when a video posted by Happy Punch revealed that Davis’ opinion of Alalshikh had not only remained unchanged but had hardened. Davis didn’t hold back, criticizing boxers associated with Alalshikh and describing the group photo taken in London with a scathing remark: “They sold their soul to the devil.”

Davis at a crossroads: Pride vs. opportunity
Davis’ incendiary statements have positioned him at a point of no return, where backing down could be perceived as a sign of weakness. However, given Davis’ unpredictable nature, a change in attitude cannot be entirely ruled out.

The question now is whether Davis is willing to set aside his pride and pursue lucrative opportunities in Saudi Arabia or if he will maintain his critical stance, potentially risking high-profile fights and financial gains.
Saudi Arabia’s influence in boxing: A growing divide
Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in boxing has sparked both excitement and controversy. The kingdom’s massive investments in high-profile events have attracted some of the sport’s biggest names, but they have also raised questions about ethics and transparency. Davis’ reaction reflects a growing divide within the boxing world, with some viewing Saudi involvement as an opportunity for growth and prosperity, while others see it as a threat to the sport’s integrity.
