Marlins set new attendance record during big win over Yankees

The Miami Marlins opened August with back-to-back wins over the New York Yankees, and one of those victories was especially memorable as it came with a record-setting crowd at the ballpark.

The Miami Marlins took Game 2 of their series against the New York Yankees with a 2-0 win in a contest where both teams battled to stay in it, but the home team ultimately came out on top. Beyond the victory, the night was also notable for a record-setting crowd at the ballpark.

A total of 34,645 fans were in attendance, marking the largest crowd at LoanDepot Park this season. It was a significant moment for the Marlins, who are currently fighting to improve their 54-55 record.

The Yankees’ presence likely played a major role in the turnout, as the team hasn’t drawn numbers like this since July 23. Even in Game 1 of the series, the crowd was strong—32,299 fans showed up for the opener against the Bronx Bombers.

What other Marlins games drew big crowds?

The season opener on March 27 against the Pirates also saw a strong turnout. Miami won that game 5-4, and 31,534 fans were in the stands. After that, the next notable attendance spike didn’t come until June 21, when 21,198 fans were present. Not even visits from the Mets or Dodgers brought in crowds this large.

Game 1 of the series against the Yankees had already set the season-high attendance mark—until Game 2 broke it. All eyes are now on Game 3 to see if the Marlins can set a new stadium record once again, and possibly extend their current four-game winning streak to five.

When will the Yankees return to Miami?

This is the only series the Yankees will play in Miami during the 2025 season. They won’t return again this year, so fans will have to wait until next season to see a rematch—whether it’s in Florida or back in New York.
