Matt Holliday has been retired from the majors for some time now, but he remains a memorable figure for the Colorado Rockies. After all, he was drafted by the organization and also played his final MLB season with them. Now, one of his sons will have the chance to follow that same path.
Ethan Holliday was drafted by the Rockies, and just hours before the big moment, his father mentioned he’d be open to taking on a more active role with the team—whether in the front office or even on the field with players.
“I have a lot of friends that are still there,” Holliday told Patrick Lyons. “I’m happy to be as involved or in the background as they would like for me to be.” It’s worth noting that Matt’s final MLB season came in 2018—with the Rockies.
Ethan Holliday Happy Despite Rockies’ Struggles
Being drafted by the Rockies, a team currently mired in a crisis of poor results, apparently hasn’t disheartened Ethan Holliday. He expressed having mixed feelings while awaiting the moment, but all signs pointed to him playing in Colorado.
“I had a little bit of a feeling as the days started trickling down – there was a little something inside me that was kind of leaning towards the Rockies,” Ethan Holliday said. “And my mom [Leslee Holliday] said she had a feeling, too.”
Has Matt Holliday Been Working in MLB?
Not really. Matt Holliday’s last role in MLB was in 2022 with the St. Louis Cardinals as a bench coach. However, he never fully served in that position, as he resigned before the start of the 2023 season.
