Injuries continue to be a primary concern for the New York Yankees over the last few weeks. With captain Aaron Judge still recovering and several vital core players on the injured list, the club hit another setback with infielder Ryan McMahon landing on the 10-day IL.

The Yankees officially announced that the thumb injury McMahon sustained during Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles will require a 10-day IL stint. In a corresponding move, utility man Max Schuemann was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Manager Aaron Boone initially addressed McMahon’s discomfort postgame, but following further evaluation, the 31-year-old infielder will need to proceed with caution. For a Yankees squad looking to maintain momentum, keeping key contributors healthy remains paramount.

Amid the roster flux, the Yankees also bolstered their pitching depth by signing right-hander Eli Morgan to a minor-league deal. Between new depth additions and a roster that is gradually regaining its form, New York hopes to extend the momentum from its recent four-game winning streak.

McMahon’s absence leaves a void at third base

Beyond his offensive output, McMahon has been a key pillar for the Yankees, locking down third base with elite defense. With McMahon sidelined, all eyes turn to how Boone will patch the hot corner moving forward.

Amed Rosario and Jazz Chisholm Jr. profile as the primary options to handle third-base duties, while versatile infielder Jose Caballero offers another viable look for the Yankees’ upcoming stretch of games.

The Yankees also maintain internal depth in the minors with options like Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas, both of whom could earn a promotion from Triple-A if Schuemann struggles to carve out a steady role in the lineup.
