Phillies emerge as top suitor for Luis Severino’s teammate in bold trade pursuit

A notable Luis Severino teammate is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams, with the Philadelphia Phillies seen as the frontrunner to make a trade.

The Philadelphia Phillies remain focused on bolstering their bullpen—not just for the rest of this season, but with an eye toward the future—and one intriguing target could be a current teammate of Luis Severino on the Athletics.

According to a report by Ken Rosenthal for The Athletic, the A’s are now open to listening to trade offers for hard-throwing reliever Mason Miller, and the Phillies are believed to be at the top of the list of potential suitors.

“The way the A’s see it, only a few teams are bold enough to propose an offer for Miller worthy of consideration,” Rosenthal wrote. “General manager David Forst might engage those teams as the deadline nears. But for now, he appears willing to let them grow more desperate. Which teams might tempt the A’s? The Philadelphia Phillies, probably would be No. 1 on the list.”

Who else is in the mix for Miller?

If the Phillies want to land Miller, they may have stiff competition. According to Rosenthal, the Dodgers are another club keeping close tabs on the reliever, who is widely viewed as one of the most electric bullpen arms available.

“The Phillies, Dodgers and Yankees figure to be near the top of the suitors list for the flame-throwing reliever, while the Padres and Mariners can never be counted out when top talent becomes available,” the report states.

Miller is in his third MLB season—all with the Athletics. He broke out in 2024 with a stellar season: 55 appearances, a 2.49 ERA, an All-Star selection, and a Rookie of the Year nomination. In 2025, he’s already appeared in 36 games and is on pace to surpass last year’s numbers.
