The Los Angeles Lakers gave Bronny James a chance to debut in the 2024-25 season. As the son of NBA legend LeBron James, expectations were high and many fans hoped he would impress right away. However, Bronny struggled to match the league’s physical intensity. He also needed time to adjust to the team’s system. Because of that, fans criticized him heavily throughout the season. Despite the backlash, Bronny did not shy away from speaking out. He addressed his future and made his goals very clear.

“That I belong…That’s all I’ve been trying to prove,” stated Bronny James on Fox Sports. Bronny has faced an uphill battle. He wants to create his own identity in the league, apart from his father’s legacy. That is because being LeBron James’ son comes with constant pressure. Even so, Bronny stays focused on proving himself.

LeBron James addressed this after Bronny’s rookie season. He said Bronny does not need to play basketball for money as he could work in his company instead. However, James Jr wants something different. He wants to succeed on his own terms. That makes his journey both difficult and respectable.

Although his statistics in the NBA G-League were good, his time with the Los Angeles Lakers told a different story. He played 27 games and averaged just 2.3 points, 0.8 assists, and 0.7 rebounds. These numbers left much to be desired. As a result, he faced heavy criticism that, according to him, affected his mental health: “I was under a lot of pressure…It was getting to me a little bit.”

Even so, he managed to bounce back. He improved his performance and earned a spot in the NBA G League again. He also delivered some solid outings with the Lakers. In an interview with Fox Sports, he explained how he handled the criticism. “Keeping my head down and working…Working is a distraction from everything. I love just coming into the gym and working and talking to my coaches and watching film.”
