After a season filled with injuries and inconsistency, the Dallas Mavericks got a break in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. They landed the No. 1 overall pick and now hold the top spot to select Cooper Flagg. His potential arrival has already sparked conversations around the league. Many consider him the best prospect in this year’s draft. As a result, his possible future in Dallas is generating strong reactions, especially from players within the team.
Mavericks forward Naji Marshall shared high praise when asked about Flagg’s game. “I mean, I love his game honestly…Like, for real… He’s a winner. I love how he hoops… The dog he has. I’m a dog, so that’s what I’m really looking for and he’s a dog, too; I’m excited, bro; I’m excited to see him grow, become a star in the league; I’m excited,” stated on The Young Man and The Three podcast.
So far, Mavericks have not officially chosen Flagg. However, reports indicate that general manager Nico Harrison already sees him as the clear pick. That would give head coach Jason Kidd a new young piece to build around. The combination of Flagg’s offensive tools and defensive versatility has fans dreaming big. If paired with Anthony Davis, the Mavericks could form one of the most dangerous frontcourts in the league.
Although Marshall is still under 30, he brings plenty of NBA experience. Therefore, he can guide Flagg as he adjusts to the pro level. His leadership and defensive mindset can serve as a strong example for the rookie. Even though they may compete for minutes, Marshall is not worried. Instead, he embraces the competition and looks forward to helping the young forward grow into his role.

With Cooper Flagg potentially heading to Dallas, many fans have already started comparing him to Luka Doncic. At first glance, this comparison makes sense emotionally. However, from a basketball standpoint, it does not hold up. Doncic plays as a dominant scorer. In contrast, Flagg shows signs of being a more complete and versatile player. Therefore, their playing styles differ in key areas.

Moreover, Cooper has not played a single NBA game yet. He still needs to prove himself at the highest level. As a result, setting such early expectations could create unnecessary pressure. In the end, these comparisons might do more harm than good.
