The San Antonio Spurs are striving to recapture the glory days of past decades. Once a dominant force in the NBA, boasting championship titles, the franchise is embarking on a new chapter as legendary coach Gregg Popovich transitions into an executive role and Mitch Johnson takes the helm as head coach.

Following Popovich’s illustrious 23-year tenure as head coach, preceded by six years as an assistant, the Spurs are poised for a fresh opportunity to contend for an NBA title in the coming season. Central to this pursuit will be the dynamic talents of Victor Wembanyama, the team’s new cornerstone, complemented by the potential impact of promising player Jeremy Sochan.

However, the Spurs are currently contending with a setback: Sochan has sustained an injury. This development was confirmed upon his arrival in San Antonio. Sochan will miss the EuroBasket tournament with Poland due to a calf injury, and the Spurs are hopeful for his timely return to influence the upcoming season significantly.

The NBA season is slated to commence on October 21, 2025, with an anticipated matchup between the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. With this date looming, the Spurs are optimistic about having Sochan ready for the onset of training camp in September, as noted by NBA insider Dusty Garza.

“I’m very disappointed, but due to a calf injury, I unfortunately won’t be able to play for Poland at this year’s EuroBasket,” Sochan expressed regarding this setback. Nonetheless, Spurs fans have reason for optimism as Sochan’s potential return aligns with the start of the new season.

While the Spurs are hopeful of Sochan playing an integral role next season, speculation surrounds his long-term future with the organization. Having recently secured a rookie-contract extension, Sochan faces a decision about whether to continue with the Spurs or explore opportunities elsewhere.

With no concrete offers reportedly on the table, the Spurs remain focused on securing one of their key assets. However, they must address his contract status, as Sochan is just one year away from potentially entering free agency.
