The New England Patriots had historically owned the Los Angeles Rams during the Tom Brady - Bill Belichick era but that didn't seem to be the case with Cam Newton under center. If anything, the Rams made a statement and made it clear that there's a new top-dog in that rivalry.
The Patriots traveled to Inglewood to take on Sean McVay's team as a 4.5-point underdog. However, half of the bettors actually thought that they could pull off the upset or at least cover the spread with a close loss.
Needless to say, that was never the case, as the Rams jumped to an early 17-0 lead and never took their feet off the gas to complete an easy and embarrassing 24-3 win, mostly powered by their tough defense.
Cam Newton was far from his MVP self once again, completing just 9 of 16 passes for 119 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He rushed 7 times for 16 yards and was sacked 4 times for a loss of 21 yards.
That's not a surprise considering how dominant the Rams' defense has been throughout the years. However, Newton's reads were just terrible, as he showed by throwing an embarrassing 79-yard pick-six early in the second quarter.
