The New England Patriots had historically owned the Los Angeles Rams during the Tom Brady – Bill Belichick era but that didn’t seem to be the case with Cam Newton under center. If anything, the Rams made a statement and made it clear that there’s a new top-dog in that rivalry.
The Patriots traveled to Inglewood to take on Sean McVay’s team as a 4.5-point underdog. However, half of the bettors actually thought that they could pull off the upset or at least cover the spread with a close loss.
Needless to say, that was never the case, as the Rams jumped to an early 17-0 lead and never took their feet off the gas to complete an easy and embarrassing 24-3 win, mostly powered by their tough defense.
Cam Newton was far from his MVP self once again, completing just 9 of 16 passes for 119 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He rushed 7 times for 16 yards and was sacked 4 times for a loss of 21 yards.
That’s not a surprise considering how dominant the Rams’ defense has been throughout the years. However, Newton’s reads were just terrible, as he showed by throwing an embarrassing 79-yard pick-six early in the second quarter.

New England currently hold a 6-7 record and is still in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs but they must be flawless from now until the end of the NFL season. They have the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets up next but it seems like their postseason streak is bound to come to an end.
