Red Wings coach Todd McLellan makes key admission about team's performance after OT loss to Blues

We just came up short. Now we’ve got to shake it off and get ready for what’s ahead at home.”

Talbot shines, but Blues complete comeback in overtime

Talbot, made a spectacular glove save at 1:20 of the first period, denying Pavel Buchnevich on a 3-on-1 break. The Red Wings‘ penalty kill also stepped up, successfully neutralizing both penalties they faced in the opening period. The second period remained scoreless until J.T. Compher broke the deadlock at 5:13 of the third, finishing a cross-ice pass from Jonatan Berggren. Vladimir Tarasenko, who spent his first 11 NHL seasons in St. Louis, recorded the secondary assist on Compher’s goal.

With Binnington pulled for an extra skater, the Blues tied the game 1-1 with just 29 seconds remaining in regulation. “We had multiple chances to clear the puck, and we didn’t get it to the net,” McLellan said.

“They made a great play—a deflection that was nowhere near the net, but you can’t cover everything. They threaded the needle, and it went in.” McLellan added. In overtime, Cam Fowler netted the game-winner for St. Louis at 3:27, sealing the comeback victory.

McLellan: Overcoming disappointment and looking ahead

McLellan emphasized the importance of moving forward after the tough loss: “We can either feel sorry for ourselves, which I don’t think is a great option, or we can get right back at it. We don’t have a choice. It’s not like we’re in the middle of the season and can afford to sulk. We’ve got to regroup, get on the plane, and get ready. We have a couple of tough games coming up at home against Carolina and Florida Panthers, and we know how important they are. With this kind of effort, we’ll give ourselves a chance to win.”
