Things could have gone even worse for the Red Devils, as star Cristiano Ronaldo controversially avoided being sent off in the first half of the eternal derby after he angrily attacked the Reds' midfielder, Curtis Jones.
After Jurgen Klopp's side took a 3-0 lead before the break, the frustrated Portuguese international powered a shot towards Alison's goal, but the ball bounced back to Jones. In an attempt to regain possession, Ronaldo tripped the away player, then continued to kick him as he lay on the pitch.
