Peru vs Colombia: Match Preview

Peru host Colombia today at the Estadio Nacional in Lima for the Matchday 7 of the South American World Cup 2022 Qualifiers. Both teams need the three points after a rocky start if they want to keep their hopes of the World Cup alive. Here you will find everything there is to know about this exciting game, such as the preview, information, storylines, predictions, odds and how to watch it in the US.

Peru hasn’t win in the tournament so far. Ricardo Gareca’s team didn’t have an easy start with clashes against hard rivals such as Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. They only managed to geat a point after a tie with the Paraguayans in the first match of the qualifiers.

It hasn’t been easy for Colombia, either. Los Cafeteros arrive in Lima with the hope of improving the poor image they left after they were trashed 6-1 by Ecuador. Now, with Reinaldo Rueda as their new coach after the exit of Carlos Queiroz, they want to close the gap with the top five with their second victory of their tournament.

Peru vs Colombia: Storylines

Though it would be a hard game, La Tricolor have a good record against Peru in Lima. Of ten games played, Peru has only been able to win one, tied five and was defeated four times. The only time they beat Colombia in Lima for the Qualifiers was in 1981.

The last time they played was in an International Friendly in 2019. In that game, Colombia got the victory thanks to the only goal of Alfredo Morelos, who won’t be in this fixture due to a Covid-19 positive.

But he is not the only casualty for the visitors. They also won’t count with Juan Fernando Quintero y James Rodríguez. Quintero couldn’t join the team due to the travel restrictions in China and Rodríguez wasn’t called due to his doubtful physical state.
