Minnesota United will look to get a win in Seattle against the Sounders in a match between two of the MLS West’s best teams. For the Loons, playing against the Rave Green has not been kind as they have lost 7 of 9 meetings.

The two meetings between the sides this season in MLS was a Sounders thrashing 4-0 to start the season and a 1-0 Minnesota United win in July. The Sounders are one of the top two teams in MLS, only being behind Bruce Arena’s New England Revolution. While the Loons are fifth in the west.

Now their meeting in week 24 will determine essential playoff spots in MLS and in the Sounders case, getting back to winning ways will have them stay on the hunt for the 2021 Supporters Shield.

Seattle Sounders vs Minnesota United: Storylines

The Seattle Sounders will be out for revenge as Minnesota United snapped the Sounders 13 game unbeaten run. Now the Sounders are on a 4-game winless streak at home, three of them coming in losses. The Loons on the other hand enter the match with 4 games on the road where they have either won or drawn.

The Sounders will most likely be without Raúl Ruidíaz, the league’s top scorer, who is returning for international duty with Peru. Ruidíaz has been on fire in MLS this season scoring 14 goals and being one of the team’s best players stepping up and leading the Sounders when others have gone down injured.

For Minnesota United the goals have been spread out with Robin Lod leading the team with six. Adrian Heath, coach of the Loons, stated that this week is big for the club: “You look at where the table is now, everybody is bunching up now in and around that playoff line, so it’s important to put a little bit of gap between one or two of us. The fact that one or two played this weekend, it’s closed up again. We’ve got a huge week coming up, we know that. We go to one of the most difficult places in the league in Seattle on Saturday, and we go to Kansas who are never easy, and then we’ve got the Galaxy. Big week coming up for us.”
