PSG and Bayern Munich are competing for a spot in the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is a tight contest with an unusual twist: Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is being whistled at every time he touches the ball.

The reason Bayern Munich supporters are jeering the PSG keeper is due to a recent incident in which Donnarumma accidentally caused a serious ankle injury to Jamal Musiala.

Late in the first half, Musiala went in to challenge for the ball alongside PSG defender William Pacho inside the penalty area. As the play developed, Donnarumma came off his line in an attempt to clear the danger, but collided with the young German star, resulting in a serious injury that forced Musiala to leave the match.

Although the challenge was accidental and did not warrant disciplinary action, Bayern fans have made their feelings known in Atlanta, voicing their frustration each time Donnarumma is involved in the play.

Moments after the incident, players and staff on the field were visibly shaken by what had just happened. While there has been no official medical report yet, it seems that Musiala may have suffered a broken ankle — a devastating injury for any soccer player.

Worst-case scenario for Musiala

The 22-year-old midfielder is facing one of the toughest moments of his young career. Coming into the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Musiala had just returned from a left hamstring tear suffered in April that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

His return to the starting lineup against PSG marked his first start in three months. Unfortunately, it now appears he’ll be forced into yet another extended recovery period before he can return to the pitch.
