Kenny Pickett’s NFL career has not unfolded as he envisioned. In 2023, the Eagles selected Tanner McKee with the 188th overall pick. Although McKee hasn’t played an official game yet, his impressive 2024 preseason performance suggests he could claim the backup QB job over Pickett.

In contrast, McKee delivered a standout performance. The former Stanford quarterback completed 15 of 19 passes for 140 yards over five series, including a 70-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.



Given McKee’s strong showing, many fans and analysts believe the Eagles might choose to stick with him and part ways with Pickett before the 2024 season. Ultimately, the final preseason games will determine who backs up Hurts in the upcoming campaign.

“The communication is what it is, it was behind closed doors,” Pickett said. “I’m confident in the way that I handled it. I handled it the way I should’ve handled it. I’m excited to be here. … I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”

Even so, he seems to be fine about it. Pickett had to choose between being backup for the Steelers or elsewhere, and it looks like he has no problem in sitting behind Hurts this year.



“This thing is a good reset,” Pickett said. “I wanna get back to having fun. … It’s a great environment here, with these coaches and these players, so that’s what I wanna get back to.”

<h2>Terry Bradshaw doesn’t want Justin Fields in Pittsburgh</h2>

Have the ability to protect him. And give him guys on the outside. This is a passing league, now. Get him people out there that can run and catch the football that are smart. That’s their guy. There’s probably going to be a lot of negative (said) about him, but that’s the guy I would go with.”



Bradshaw also had his fair share of doubters back in the day, until he led the Steelers to the promised land in his fifth year. He went on to wing three more rings with the franchise, which is why his opinion will always matter in Pittsburgh.
