The Argentinewill face his tenth year at the managerial role after making his breakthrough to the job on a difficult time for <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/river-plate-t17375" target="_blank" rel="noopener">River Plate</a> at the second division. Several years after that first step as a coach, <strong>the former Argentine international midfielder is looking to upgrade San Jose’s quality to get better results</strong>.</p>
<p>With the energy focused on what will be a challenging new soccer season and aiming to improve the 8th position finish from last year, <strong>the Quakes have made interesting adquisitions to strengthen their roster</strong>.</p>

In that second division campaign he was coached by the current Quakes boss.</p>

The club was founded as the New York/ New Jersey MetroStars (yeah that’s a long name) in 1996 and was set up to be one of the premier clubs in MLS. Despite fielding the likes of Roberto Donadoni, Tony Meola, and Tab Ramos, the 1996 season was average at best, what followed were some difficult years, <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/longest-mls-losing-streaks-20210215-0007.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">with an all-time low in 1999 where the MetroStars lost 12 straight games</a>. During the course of their history the Red Bulls have had a total of 15 coaches, with the likes of Carlos Queiroz, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Bora Milutinović, Bob Bradley, Bruce Arena, Juan Carlos Osorio, and Jesse Marsch having coached the club at one point, with Osorio and Marsch achieving any real memorable results.</p>
<p>The Red Bull Group purchased the club in 2006 and focused on a more player development strategy, which has garnered the best results for the club. <p>If the Red Bulls have had anything over the years it has been reliable goalkeepers, and <strong>Tony Meola</strong> was the first in a long line of standouts in goal. Meola put up amazing numbers while in goal for the MetroStars, he was a league leader in saves, the team’s defense was often miserable, shutouts, amazing feat considering the team’s lack of defense, and minutes played. Meola basically revitalized his career in New York and would go on to make history in Kansas City and earn his 100 cap for the USMNT.</p>

Petke was all heart as a rookie and as time went along was the most consistent face on the roster with so much change over the years. Petke would play over 150 games for the team and when he retired, he coached the Red Bulls to their first major championship, the 2013 Supporters Shield. To Red Bulls fans he is a club legend.</p>

<p>Before <strong>Tim Howard </strong>was racking up saves in the EPL for Everton he started as a bright-eyed kid with the MetroStars. Howard had amazing athletic ability and would eventually win the starting goalkeeper spot and play 88 games for the team. How good was Howard? Well, a little club named Manchester United bought him at a bargain price, at ManU he would win EPL goalkeeper of the year honors before moving to Everton to become a fixture at the club. Howard also represented the USMNT at three World Cups.</p>

Guevara became a club hero in his four seasons with the club, playing over 100 games and scoring 32 goals. Like much in Red Bull history, things for the club were inconsistent, but Guevara was that bright spot in some pretty dark years for the club and the league.</p>

<p>One of the team’s first DP signings the Australian international <strong>Tim Cahill </strong>was all heart and guts in the Red Bulls midfield. An example and team leader Cahill scored some nice goals for the club, 14, in 62 games. Cahill was one of the leaders in the 2013 Supporters Shield run. The team has since found it hard to once again find a leader in the middle like Cahill.</p>

<p>Another local hero <strong>John Wolyniec</strong> scored 26 goals for the club, none more important than the goal in MLS Cup in 2008, although the team came up short. Wolyniec was known for his grit and goal poaching and he earned the nickname the Staten Island Ronaldo by the Red Bulls faithful.</p>

<p>The 2002 World Cup hero came to the MetroStars via the Galaxy in 2000 and turned into a club legend. <strong>Clint Mathis</strong> scored some sensational goals for the MetroStars over his 5 seasons, 39 in 93 games. In 2000 Mathis scored 5 goals in a game against the Dallas Burn, and while his stock was rising MLS nixed a move to Bayern Munich, after which Mathis production began to fall until he left to play for Hannover 96. Maturity and professionalism were always issues with Mathis, but he is one of the best pure talents the Red Bulls or USMNT ever had.</p>

Savarese was a hardnose goal poacher, he scored an amazing bicycle kick goal against the Mutiny to get the clubs first ever win. Gio would score 44 goals for the club in three seasons.</p>

With 238 games, Robles was a part of all three Supporter Shields the club has won in its history. In a club that has had Meola and Howard in goal, Robles tops them because he actually had long term success at the club.</p>

<p>As <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mls-t16956" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Major League Soccer</strong> </a>enters its 26th season, for every positive record in league history, there are also some many would like to forget. MLS is a forgiving league, with no promotion or relegation, a dead last team can realistically end up winning <strong>MLS Cup </strong>the following season with a bit of investment. In 1999, for example the Kansas City Wizards, future <strong>Sporting KC</strong>, had an absolutely dreadful year, but managed to put it behind them and win MLS Cup in 2000, with some bunker defense and world class goalkeeping by Tony Meola. Still, it must hurt team fan bases pretty hard to endure some of the losing streaks we are going to feature today.</p>
<p><a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/mls-top-10-most-expensive-incoming-transfers-20210211-0009.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLS</a> by its single entity set up can be a streaky league, it is not uncommon to see a championship winning team lose in the double digits during the year. Last season 13 of the 26 teams had .500 or below .500 records.</p>
<p>Nonetheless some teams truly stink up the field, and we have identified some infamous teams that MLS fans won’t soon forget. Here are the teams with the<strong> longest losing streaks in <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/mls-2021-when-does-the-new-season-start-20201211-0021.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLS</a> history.</strong></p>

<h2>Longest losing streak to end a season – 1999 Kansas City Wizards</h2>

<p>Just a year before they would claim their first MLS Cup, the then Kansas City Wizards, lost a combined total of 24 games, winning 8, 2 of which came via the old-fashioned shootout. To end the season the Wizards dropped seven in a row and were shut out in five of those games. In fact, Alexi Lalas scored the team’s final goal of the season against the old Dallas Burn in a shootout loss. Then the Wizards would not score a goal for three games straight.</p>

<p>Toronto FC was down and out for a lot of their early MLS history, before the team became a contender there were many stinkers. In 2012, TFC started the season losing nine straight matches! Dutch coach Aaron Winter was gone by June, and Toronto would only win 5 games the whole year. Chivas USA won more games than Toronto that season, ouch!</p>
<h2>Summer blues – 2018 Orlando City</h2>

<p>In 2018 from May until July, Orlando City lost 9 games in a row, the Kaka less Orlando City was thin on its roster with few standouts. The Lions gave up 10 goals in three games before the streak ended. Orlando would win 8 games and lose 24 that year.</p>
<h2>Unlucky 10 – 2005 Real Salt Lake</h2>

<p>RSL was not exactly a flagship team in their inaugural season, during the end of the regular season the team would lose 10 straight. RSL would only win 5 games in 2005, but amazingly did better than Chivas USA who won only 4.</p>
<h2>The 1999 MetroStars</h2>

<p>By far, one of the worst teams in MLS history were the 1999 MetroStars, <strong>Bora Milutinovic</strong> bumbled his way through a season which at one point saw the sad Metros drop 12 straight matches. A record that still stands today. Incredibly, 1999 saw the MetroStars break another bad record, they actually started a season winning and not losing their first 3 games as they did in the first three seasons. The MetroStars were so bad that the 1999 Kansas City Wizards team, that team that could not score goals, beat the MetroStars 6-0 at one point of the season. The Charlie Stillitano era would end and the MetroStars would have an amazing 2000 season before going dormant until the Red Bulls took over the club.</p>

<p><strong>Santiago Sosa </strong>is the latest big money transfer for <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/atlanta-united-t215" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Atlanta United</strong></a>, the Argentine midfielder comes to <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mls-t16956" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>MLS</strong> </a>at a whopping $6 million transfer fee. The 21-year-old was only able to play 14 league games in a stacked<strong> River Plate</strong> side, but he was regarded as one of the club’s biggest prospects going forward for Marcelo Gallardo. River Plate in need of selling talents was not able to say no to Atlanta United’s big money offer. Despite the big transfer, Sosa will not count as a DP, at the moment, the current DP slots belong to Marcelino Moreno, Ezequiel Barco, and Josef Martínez.</p>
<p>Santiago Sosa will be the clubs sixth Argentine on the <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/new-survey-identifies-the-most-popular-soccer-teams-and-leagues-in-the-united-states-20201022-0017.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Atlanta</a> roster and he will play in his customary holding midfield position. Sosa made his big-league debut against Racing Club in a Copa Libertadores match in 2018 and later went on to make his Argentine league debut that same season against Lanus.</p>
<p>Santiago Sosa has also played for the Argentine U-20’s having played in 13 games and went on to represent Argentina in the 2019 U-20 World Cup. Carlos Bocanegra stated that Sosa is <em>“a holding midfielder who understands and reads the game exceptionally well for someone his age… He broke through into the First Team at River last year, experiencing numerous big matches in both Copa Libertadores and the Copa Diego Maradona, in addition to his time with Argentina U-20s.”</em></p>

As a result, <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mls-t16956" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>MLS</strong></a> estimated their losses at around $1 billion last season, and this season, according to the Commissioner of the league <strong>Don Garber</strong>, there will be another <strong>estimated loss of $1 billion</strong>. Garber told reporters, <em>“We are forecasted to lose pretty close to US$1 billion… When you don’t have fans for the majority of your season, it’s just pure math. So that being said, our owners have been very, very focused over a long period of time to build a league. But their resources are not unlimited. We’ve got to drive revenue. We’ve got to think about new ways to approach our business.”</em></p>
<p>Unlike many of the other sports leagues in the United States, <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/list-of-mls-champions-20201208-0006.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLS</a> does not have a huge television deal when compared to the NBA or MLB. The league has a TV deal that is estimated at roughly $600 million, a far cry from the NFL’s $7 billion television package. MLS depends greatly on fans attending their games and with restrictions in almost every market the revenue stream has run a bit dry.</p>
<p>Major League Soccer is set to kick off the <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/mls-2021-when-does-the-new-season-start-20201211-0021.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2021 season on April 17th</a>, following the implementation of the new CBA, which forced the league to push back the season. <strong>Despite the losses all players are expected to receive 100% compensation for the upcoming season.</strong></p>

<p>At the moment, the league will look to ride the wave of the pandemic, hoping that sooner rather than later fans will be able to return in some capacity to all their stadiums. The move did not happen, and Precourt sold his stake in the Crew to local ownership and put his focus on getting his new MLS team off the ground. Striker <strong>Robert Lewandowski </strong>showed why he was (and still is) considered one of the best strikers in the world after scoring a sensational strike from the edge of the box to put Bayernahead in the first half.</p>

<p>There is always an opportunity for a second chance. For <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/gonzalo-martinez-t224" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Gonzalo Pity Martínez</strong></a> that second chance at MLS may come with a move to <strong>FC Cincinnati </strong>according to reports. Pity Martínez was signed by <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/atlanta-united-t215" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Atlanta United</a> in 2019 following his South American Player of the Year season at Argentine powerhouse<a href="https://us.bolavip.com/river-plate-t17375" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> River Plate</a>, which culminated in a Copa Libertadores title. Martínez arrived at Atlanta with high expectations but for whatever reason the five stripes only saw moments of brilliance rather than consistent play. A problem that has plagued Pity throughout his career. At Atlanta, Martínez played only 39 games and scored 7 goals, he was in and out of the line up as his relationship, along with many other players, with then manager Frank de Boer had deteriorated.</p>
<p>When Atlanta was offered the unexpected sum of <strong>$18 million for Pity Martínez</strong> the move was a no brainer for the club and the player. Atlanta received a huge sum of money for an inconsistent player and for Pity it was a substantial pay raise, from only $900,000 annually to a reported $4.5 million yearly. The deal was done and Martínez became one of the <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/mls-the-top-outgoing-transfers-to-date-20200903-0001.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highest outgoing transfers in league history</a>.</p>
<p>At Al-Nassr, the Argentine midfielder has flourished winning the Saudi Super Cup in 2020, but there are rumors and reports that Al-Nassr players have not been paid in months and that the club is looking to clear its books. At his current salary it will most likely mean Pity will need to take a pay cut to return to <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mls-t16956" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLS</a>.</p>

If Martínez does return to MLS he would have to go through the allocation process, where Cincinnati is 14th and would have to trade to get the midfielder.</p>
<p>Despite his inconsistencies, Pity Martínez has won titles at every club he has ever played for, winning 1 championship with his childhood team Huracán, 8 championships at River Plate, 2 with Atlanta United, and now 1 at Al-Nassr.</p>

The clubs that made it to the postseason in the prior campaign are then ordered accordingly to the round they were eliminated in the prior postseason.</p>
<p>Last but not least, the MLS Cup winners are given the last selection while the runners up of the past tournament receive the penultimate selection. Trades can take place before, during, and after the draft and this year wasn’t the exception.</p>

<p>David Beckham and <strong><a href="https://us.bolavip.com/inter-miami-t53162" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Inter Miami</a> </strong>look set to get their coach as reports out of England have surfaced that <strong>Phil Neville</strong> could take over the position come July. These plans may be altered as Inter Miami announced the departure of former coach Diego Alonso who according to the press release mutually agreed to part ways with the <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mls-t16956" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLS </a>club.</p>
<p>Neville is currently the England Women’s National team coach, and while he is set to leave his position in the middle of the year, if he is in fact Inter Miami’s top target it seems unlikely the club will wait until midseason to bring him on board. Neville and <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/soccer/9-soccer-teams-with-celebrity-owners-20201123-0009.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beckham</a> were former Manchester United and England teammates, they currently are a part of the ownership group of English fourth-division side Salford City. It was reported in England that Beckham himself spoke to Neville about the position.</p>
<p>Diego Alonso on the other hand ended his only year in charge of <strong>Inter Miami </strong>with a lukewarm record of 7-13-3, the team did make the playoffs but were quickly eliminated in the play-in round by Nashville SC. Alonso held a meeting with team owners at seasons end, he left the meeting feeling as if he was fired and went as far as communicating it to the players and staff. Inter Miami denied they had fired Alonso but that did not last long as Alonso left his position on January 7th, 2021 making him the first MLS coaching casualty of 2021.</p>

<p>As for Diego Alonso, the rollercoaster first season in charge of Inter Miami has ended just about where it started, with Inter Miami still being a project with no real formation. Alonso was never the clubs first choice as manager and his announcement as manager was met with relief rather than enthusiasm since it took the club a long time to get a coach in place.</p>

The league has reached incredible levels in recent years and they will only keep getting better every year. They have witnessed great goals and today we’re going to take a look at the best we’ve seen in a quarter of a century.</p>
<p>MLS shared a Youtube video showing the best goals in history and they selected very good looking goals that will make history not only as of the best goals in league history but also in soccer history.</p>
<p>This season had very incredible goals but that’s something common every year in Major League Soccer. Now we have to go through the best of all time, with some historical players showing their skills at the time of scoring.</p>
