Bryce Harper is off to a strong start this MLB season, and the Philadelphia Phillies are showing early signs of being a serious contender in 2025. Recently, Harper admitted that he’d love to accomplish what Jalen Hurts did with the Philadelphia Eagles.
In one of his latest comments—just before the Phillies snapped the Dodgers’ winning streak—Harper made it clear that he wants to bring home something big for the city, just like Hurts and Saquon Barkley did with the Eagles during their 2024 campaign.
“Jalen had such a great year, obviously Saquon had a great year… It was a lot of fun to watch… We root for each other… Hopefully we’re able to do the same thing they did. This city, there’s nothing like it,” Harper said while mic’d up during the game against the Dodgers.
Last season, Harper and the Phillies reached the postseason but came up short, falling in the Division Series to the Mets. It marked the third straight year the team made the playoffs without securing a championship.
When was the last time the Phillies won the World Series?
The Phillies last captured a World Series title in 2008, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in a 4-1 series. Cole Hamels earned MVP honors for his performance. The following year, they made it back to the Fall Classic but lost to the New York Yankees.

Three strong years for Philadelphia
In 2022, the Phillies came close again but lost the World Series 4-2 to the Astros. Despite the heartbreak, they returned to the postseason in 2023 and advanced to the NLCS, where they were upset by the underdog Arizona Diamondbacks.
Harper has been part of each of those playoff runs, watching the Phillies come agonizingly close to a long-awaited championship. Now, after starting the 2025 season with six straight wins, Harper believes the path to a title may finally be taking shape.
