Nico Harrison is not well-liked by Dallas Mavericks fans. Trading away their cornerstone player and hometown idol rarely earns approval. However, Harrison made the bold move of trading Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. Unfortunately, the decision did not go as expected. Davis got injured in his debut, which led to growing criticism of Harrison. Despite the backlash, former LeBron James teammate Carlos Boozer praised Harrison’s roster built.

“They have great pieces on that team. Nico did a good job of putting a really good team together for now. So, for next year, they are going to be a contender if they’re healthy,” stated Carlos Boozer on Get Up ESPN.

Many believe it is unfair to judge Nico Harrison too harshly at this point. When the trade happened, most NBA analysts agreed the Mavericks’ GM made the right call. This was especially true with questions surrounding Luka Doncic’s fitness. Then, the injuries hit. Anthony Davis suffered a setback. Kyrie Irving tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

The full potential of this roster may not show this season. Injuries forced key players to miss time. The team now needs to recover, rebuild chemistry, and regain momentum. Next season, the Dallas Mavericks must prove their worth. A healthy core gives them a real shot.

Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, and PJ Washington give Dallas a strong foundation. Each player brings elite skills. They also offer versatility on both ends of the floor. This lineup could give the Mavericks a real chance to chase a title. The roster is built to compete right away. Next season, the focus shifts to Jason Kidd. He must prove he can turn this group into a true contender.

Anthony Davis opens up on Mavericks’ NBA goals after his injury comeback

Despite the doubts of many, Anthony Davis managed to return early from his injury. Against the Brooklyn Nets, he logged 26 minutes scoring 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. After the game, he made some clear statements about the team’s intentions this season.

“I’m not the one to throw in the towel and sit down. I felt good enough to play. We got goals in mind. Even though we are undermanned, not 100% healthy. Guys are coming back, Live and Gaff, I want to make sure I have rhythm if we are able to get in the play-in,” affirmed Anthony Davis.

Despite recent struggles, Anthony Davis said the Mavericks will keep fighting for a playoff spot. Not only Jason Kidd got Davis back in the lineup, but also welcomed the return of PJ Washington. That gave the offense a much-needed boost. Their comeback also helped the defense, which had been worn down by injuries.
