The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans will have their first test of the 2025 NFL preseason. Will Baker Mayfield and Cam Ward play in today’s game?
In just a few weeks, all 32 NFL teams will begin their journey toward Super Bowl LX. The preseason is key to starting the campaign on the right foot and finalizing the best 53-man roster possible.
The Buccaneers open their preseason against the Titans. Each club enters the game in a very different situation — Tampa Bay is regarded as a solid contender, while Tennessee is still undergoing a major rebuild.
Is Baker Mayfield playing against the Titans today?
According to reports, Baker Mayfield will not play in today’s game against the Titans. The quarterback recently suffered a minor injury to his throwing hand, and the team doesn’t want to risk him.
Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed that the injury is not serious. Mayfield has already returned to practice but is not expected to see action in the preseason opener.
Will Cam Ward play against the Buccaneers today?
As for Cam Ward, he is set to suit up and play for the Titans against the Buccaneers. Head coach Brian Callahan said the rookie quarterback will play “for a series or two” today.
The Titans want to get a first look at Ward — their 2025 first overall pick — before the regular season. However, they plan to limit his snaps to avoid any risk of injury, especially with Will Levis expected to miss the entire year.
