Lionel Messi shocked the world last week when he told FC Barcelona that he intended to leave the club after almost 20 years as a Blaugrana. Now, everybody’s panicking about the possibility of having to play against him every weekend.

Messi is believed to be in advanced talks with Manchester City to reunite with Pep Guardiola this season. The Citizens have enough cash to spare and a couple of players to sweeten the deal for Bartomeu and the Catalans.

Needless to say, that’s terrible news for EPL defenders, including Wolverhampton’s captain Conor Coady, who recently admitted that he would most likely panic if he knew he was about to face Messi.

Conor Coady Says He Would Panic If He Had To Face Messi In The Premier League

I would probably panic, a lot of panic before the game to try and get my head around playing him. You could watch all the videos in the world to try to prepare for someone like him and you would struggle. It would be amazing for him and the Premier League,” Coady said.

The Wolves’ captain went on to add that Lionel Messi joiningthe English Premier League would obviously be huge for the competition, even if that means having to find a way to contain him:

“We all know how big the Premier League is. He is his own man and he will decide his future but in terms of the Premier League, if it does happen, it will be absolutely incredible. Let’s see what happens,” he concluded.

Messi’s decision to leave Barcelona is believed to be final. The team’s board is reportedly trying to smooth things out with his father Jorge Messi but it doesn’t feel like they’re close to reaching an agreement. For now, however, Coady can breathe and relax knowing that he’s not a Manchester City player yet.
