Last November, Paul faced Mike Tyson — a fighter 31 years his senior. He cruised to a unanimous decision victory, largely due to Tyson’s visible exhaustion by the third round.

To truly test his skills, Paul’s team has now lined up a more legitimate opponent. Chavez Jr., a former world champion, represents a notable step up in competition — and at 39, he’s 11 years older than Paul, but not nearly as large an age gap as with Tyson.

In preparation, Paul says he’s developed a new approach to boxing — one the world has yet to see. He has sent a huge warning to the Mexican about what to expect from him in a few days.

“I really haven’t been able to show the world all my new skills,” Paul told reporters, hinting at significant evolution in his style since the Tyson bout. “This fight will simply be an offensive war.

“Styles make fights, and Chavez is a strong forward fighter who keeps his hands up, which opens up many opportunities for me to hit him. And the way our styles match up, I’m just going to tear him apart.”
