After a nail-biting finish to the 2025 Truist Championship, Sepp Straka clinched a pivotal tournament victory, edging out Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry in a dramatic conclusion to an exceptional weekend of golf at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, which hosted the event for the first time. Straka takes home a substantial $3.6 million winner’s check—but how much do Lowry and Thomas earn for their shared runner-up finish?
There was no shortage of emotion as Lowry and Straka went stroke for stroke in one of the most thrilling finishes on this year’s PGA Tour signature events. In the end, Lowry couldn’t close the gap behind Straka’s -16 mark, and what initially seemed like a two-horse race in Philadelphia ultimately welcomed a third contender: Thomas, who surged to an unexpected tie for second place.
Straka claimed his fourth PGA Tour title—and second of the 2025 Golf season—as he continues to make his presence felt in the rankings, further strengthening his case for a spot on Team Europe’s Ryder Cup roster, where he could very well reunite with Lowry, too.
The Truist Championship has a $20M purse, which will be shared between the 72 players in this year’s edition. The reigning champion, Straka, will take the biggest share of the prize, securing $3.6M thanks to his dramatic triumph. With Lowry and Thomas tied for second place, how much do they take home?

After Shane Lowry’s dramatic bogey in the final round of the Truist Championship, Straka’s path to victory opened up considerably. However, Lowry’s slip didn’t benefit just one player—Thomas capitalized as well, finishing tied for second.

As a result, there is technically no third-place finisher at this year’s Truist Championship, with Lowry and Thomas set to split the combined earnings for second and third place.
The tournament’s runner-up earns a $2.16M prize, while third place comes with a $1.36M payout. Since Thomas and Lowry tied for second, the two prizes will be combined and split evenly. While falling just short of victory may sting for Lowry and Thomas, both players will walk away with a $1.76M check for their shared finish in second place.

“It’s hard to eat [with the pressure. You feel nauseous but that’s kind of what makes it fun, when you’re pulling off the shots with that pressure, it makes it special,” Straka admitted about his emotions through the weekend in dialogue with CBS after his crowning. “I think just hanging in there, I hit a lot of really good shots and made a lot of mistakes.

“I hung in there. I had a two-shot lead and made two bogeys on the next two holes to lose it, but I kept the same attitude and mentality throughout the round.”
