The Denver Broncos are getting very excited about the upcoming 2025 NFL season. One of the reasons why is the fact that both head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Bo Nix are entering the second year together as a duo. This is exciting news as Payton is one of the most creative minds in the league and Nix is adding another year of experience. Now, the coach is trying new things to improve the offense further.
Nick Kosmider from The Athletic reported that the Broncos are trying “different stuff” with wideout Marvin Mims during offseason drills. According to the report Mims is “expanding his playmaking menu” as the coaching staff wants to get him more involved this season.
Payton likes to use Mims on screens and plays behind the line of scrimmage. However, he is determined to make Mims a gadget menace now. Mims is coming off a good season with all career-highs in yards and touchdowns.
Mims is a two-time Pro Bowler but has room to improve
Mims has been in the Pro Bowl twice, but not as a receiver. He has done a terrific job as a kick/punt returner. This means Mims is already a bonafide weapon on the roster, it’s just that Sean Payton thinks his potential is even bigger than previously expected.

Marvin Mims Jr. #19 of the Denver Broncos reacts in the third quarter against the Buffalo Bills during the AFC Wild Card Playoffs at Highmark Stadium on January 12, 2025 in Orchard Park, New York.
As a receiver, last year he posted 39 catches for 503 yards and 6 touchdowns. He had an outstanding catch percentage of 75%. Mims is just 23 years old so the potential to become a special weapon in the NFL is huge.

Mims is not the only big weapon on Denver
Bo Nix will not need Mims on every single snap, though he will be thankful to have him. However, the Broncos have other weapons to exploit besides Mims. For example, Courtland Sutton just got paid handsomely. The wideout received $92 million on a 4-year extension.
Also, the Broncos just drafted running back R.J. Harvey and brought J.K. Dobbins to establish a top-tier running game. Last but not least, the tight end room also received a big upgrade with veteran Evan Engram who can be a massive weapon for Nix. The Broncos offense will have plenty of options to damage their opponents.
