A former teammate of Tua Tagovailoa with the Miami Dolphins—most recently with the Saints—has made an important decision regarding his future.

Tua Tagovailoa has shared the field with countless players during his time with the Miami Dolphins—many of whom may have helped shape the quarterback he is today. In recent hours, one of those former teammates, who served as a team captain back in 2021, has made a significant decision regarding the future of his career.

Jesse Davis, a veteran offensive tackle and team captain in South Florida during Tua’s second year in the league, announced on Monday that he is retiring from professional football, officially bringing his 10-year NFL career to an end.

Most recently with the Saints, where he participated only in the 2024 training camp before being released, Davis leaves behind a long career during which he suited up for several teams across the league.

After confirming his decision to end his NFL career, the veteran offensive tackle made his announcement official through a message posted on his Instagram account.

“After 10 years, I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” Davis wrote in an post via @jesse_daviss. “Thank you to all my coaches, teammates, fans, and most importantly, my family. Without you guys, I wouldn’t have made it this far. Thank you to all the organizations that gave me the opportunity to play the game I love. I’ve had an incredible ride that I’ll never forget. Now it’s time to be a full-time dad and figure out my next chapter.”

Davis entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015, making his first stop in the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks.

The lengthy NFL career of Jesse Davis

Offensive lineman Jesse Davis, a veteran presence in the NFL, has certainly made his rounds across the league since entering as an undrafted free agent in 2015. After initial stints with the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets practice squads, Davis truly found his footing with the Miami Dolphins. He became a familiar face on their offensive line from 2016 through the 2021 season, demonstrating his versatility by playing multiple positions and even serving as a team captain.

Following his impactful tenure in Miami, Davis continued his professional journey, providing depth and experience to various teams. In 2022, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he contributed for a season.

His career then took him to the West Coast, as he joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, adding to their offensive line unit. Most recently, Davis signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2024, showcasing his continued value and ability to contribute across different NFL franchises.
