NFL News: Andy Reid and Chiefs have reportedly made final decision on whether to release Patrick Mahomes’ key teammates

In a move that could shape the future of the Kansas City Chiefs' roster, Andy Reid and the front office have reportedly reached a final decision on the fate of Patrick Mahomes' key teammates. As the team looks to maintain its championship window, the choices made in the coming days could have a major impact on their Super Bowl aspirations.

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs have decided to begin working on contract extensions for three key players to help Patrick Mahomes in his quest for another championship. No chance of letting them go soon. The information was confirmed by a report from James Palmer.

“The plan all along has been for the Chiefs to get through the draft and then work on getting a new deal done with Trey Smith and then at some point work on new contracts for George Karlaftis and Trent McDuffie. They are all slated to remain in KC.”

The Chiefs lost the last Super Bowl in embarrassing fashion against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Because of that, in an effort to keep the dynasty alive, general manager Brett Veach is trying to maintain a competitive roster in every possible way.

Who just signed with Kansas City Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs intend for Trey Smith, Trent McDuffie, and George Karlaftis to sign contract extensions with the team soon. All three are considered essential pieces for the team in the long term.

In fact, just a few days ago, general manager Brett Veach took the first step toward consolidating that goal by exercising the fifth-year option in the contracts of Karlaftis and McDuffie. With that secured, it’s now time to negotiate the multi-year deals.
