Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are doing their due diligence ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. With the intention of bringing more help for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the team has reportedly reached out an exciting prospect.

On Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that, on Tuesday, Reid participated in a virtual call with Ohio State Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson as the Chiefs are doing “late homework” on the position.

The 22-year-old is projected to be the second or third running back to be drafted this year after Boise State sensation Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina product Omarion Hampton. Needless to say, it would be an interesting addition to the offense led by Mahomes and Kelce.

Chiefs have many draft picks to add at RB

Even though Reid already counts on a strong backfield led by Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco, Fowler suggests that running back could be a position to watch for the Chiefs in the 2025 NFL Draft.

It remains to be seen whether Henderson is still available when the Chiefs get on the clock though. Kansas City will have to wait many turns, with its first selection coming at No. 31. The Chiefs will have seven more picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, with one second-rounder, two third-rounders, a fourth-round pick, and three seven-rounders.

Brett Veach suggests Chiefs will draft a RB

While Chiefs general manager Brett Veach didn’t reveal the team’s intention for the Draft, the executive did make a revealing comment about this year’s RB class. It appears that Mahomes will have a rookie weapon for the running game.

“The running back class is probably the deepest class in the draft, and I think you can get a really good player from round one through five,” Veach told reporters last week, letting the Chiefs know what to expect in the 2025 NFL Draft. “So with all these players, you’re a few bad weeks away from having no depth at all. I think it’s a good likelihood that one of those players ends up on our roster, and hopefully they’re a dynamic returner.”

Henderson helped the Buckeyes win the national title in the last college football season, so the expectations around him are high. His arrival in Kansas City would boost a RB group that, apart from Pacheco and Hunt, will also count on former San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell in 2025.
