The Kansas City Chiefs face challenges during preseason training camp. Head coach Andy Reid is working to restore the system that led the franchise to back-to-back Super Bowl titles, while star quarterback Patrick Mahomes looks to elevate his game, even though he might lose one of his key weapons.

Injuries during practice can sideline a player, creating a major setback during a period meant to fine-tune the team’s strategy ahead of the new season. In this context, Reid and the Chiefs have received an unfortunate update about an offensive contributor.

Mahomes is hoping for a quick recovery to continue building chemistry with his running backs and receivers. But the recent injury to wide receiver Xavier Worthy during practice is raising concerns in Kansas City, casting uncertainty over the team’s current outlook.

What is Worthy’s injury?

After taking a hard fall to the ground, Worthy left Tuesday’s practice and headed to the locker room, where he was checked by team staff. Speaking to the media, Reid confirmed that the Chiefs receiver has entered the NFL‘s concussion protocol and will be sidelined for a period of time until he is fully cleared.

The news was first reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who shared Reid’s confirmation. As a result, Mahomes is temporarily down two important targets. Alongside Worthy’s injury, there’s also concern about Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who is dealing with a minor injury.

Worthy still has time to recover fully before the start of the new season, so he is expected to be available for the Chiefs. The NFL’s concussion protocol doesn’t have a fixed timeline, as each player is evaluated individually. His return could take just a few days or potentially extend over several weeks.
