The 2024 NFL season didn’t end the way Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs wanted. Therefore, everyone on the team is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team get over the hump in 2025. Xavier Worthy made that clear to Reid recently.
Speaking to the media at Chiefs training camp, the second-year wide receiver let everyone know that he’s willing to serve as the team’s punt returner if necessary. But Worthy isn’t the only player open to contribute in a different role.
Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Danna has established himself as a versatile player for Reid and company, proving useful for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in different positions. And just in case, he reminded his coaches about his commitment to helping Kansas City in any way possible.
Mike Danna open to help Reid, Chiefs from different roles
“With my game, I just try to be versatile and, whatever the coaches need, whatever my teammates need. If they rely on me to go inside and produce, or line up inside and do what I gotta do, then that’s what it is,” Danna said Sunday, via Sports Illustrated.

Mike Danna #51 of the Kansas City Chiefs takes the field prior to the the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on January 29, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Even though he acknowledged how tricky it could be to switch roles from time to time, Danna knows that it’s part of the job in order to help the Chiefs achieve their goals with Reid.

“But it’s always a challenge, going from both outside and in, because it’s always different footwork, always different techniques. But you just gotta be able to adjust, man,” he added. “You know, if you’re able to adjust on the fly, you can really excel.”
Reid is aware of Danna’s importance for the Chiefs
Selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Danna proved to be an extremely valuable asset for the Chiefs, helping the franchise reach four Super Bowls in five years, winning two of them.
The front office rewarded him with a three-year, $24 million deal in April 2024. Reid is well aware of Danna’s importance on the defensive side of the ball, hoping he can continue helping his team with his versatility.

“Yeah, we did that last year,” Reid said about Danna on Sunday. “We moved him inside, outside, pass situations, jumped him inside. He’s got a knack for it. So, we’ve moved those guys all around, but you got to have a special knack if you’re going to go inside, and he’s got that.”
