NFL News: Mike Tomlin’s Steelers leader sends clear message to Aaron Rodgers as star quarterback delays final decision to sign with Pittsburgh

As speculation swirls around Aaron Rodgers' next move, a respected voice inside the Steelers' locker room is making it clear where the team stands. With the star quarterback still weighing his options, one Pittsburgh leader is sending a strong and confident message.

Alex Highsmith, one of the leaders in the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room, spoke about Aaron Rodgers. During an interview with The Insiders, the defensive player admitted that he’s excited about the possibility of the quarterback signing with the team.

ā€œI know that if he does sign, we’re definitely going to be really excited to have him. We know who he is. He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback. He’s one of the best to ever do it. I wouldn’t say it’s a distraction at all, but we all know what type of quarterback he is and what he brings to the table.ā€

One of the big questions is what the feeling among the Steelers players was, especially the more experienced ones, after the long wait for the Super Bowl champion quarterback to make a decision. Highsmith seems on board, and a few weeks ago, Heyward also made it clear that he supports his arrival.

Who will be Steelers starting QB in 2025?

Although Aaron Rodgers is the priority to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers, Highsmith also made public something that multiple reports had already indicated. Pittsburgh is comfortable with Mason Rudolph in case Rodgers turns down the offer.

ā€œI think we just try to put our best foot forward every day. Like with who’s in the building right now. I know Mason being there, he’s done a great job. The guys are rallying around him and, like I said, he’s been with us before and guys know him, Pittsburgh fans know him. The way that he helped us finish in 2023 was awesome. No matter who’s back there for us, whether it’s him or if Aaron Rodgers is gonna come, I’m just excited. Whoever’s back there, we’re gonna have their backs and we’re gonna rally behind them. Just excited for whoever it’s gonna be.ā€
