Stefon Diggs‘ arrival in Foxborough was met with high hopes for an offense looking to improve on last NFL season’s numbers. Now, the New England Patriots could be on the verge of making a significant decision regarding the talented wide receiver.
One could imagine that if there’s anything that might eventually jeopardize the former Texans receiver’s role on Mike Vrabel’s team, it would be a physical setback — especially considering his recent injury history, which includes some serious issues.
Despite that, and according to reporter Scott Zolak, Diggs may have his future at risk with the franchise due to certain off-field behaviors that reportedly didn’t sit well within the Patriots organization.
“I came to this show yesterday with the opinion — not opinion, but the knowledge that it is on the table,” Zolak recently said during his weekday radio program on 98.5 The Sports Hub, via NBCSportsBoston.com. “That it is being thought of. [I]t’s not just the boat. It’s not just the boat. There are some other things that I’ve heard that put some things in question. Are you all-in here?”

Stefon Diggs #1 of the Houston Texans warms up prior to a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on October 20, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Nevertheless, Zolak believes that Diggs should remain in New England. “The videos look great of him working out,” he said. “I’ve touted the videos. I know you need diva receivers. I say he shouldn’t be cut, because I think he would help Drake Maye and this offense and Josh McDaniels, because you would have a true viable guy that would set coverage. Right now, you still don’t have a guy who sets coverage.”
What to expect from the Patriots in the upcoming season
With their sights set on regaining relevance in the AFC, the New England Patriots are placing a strong bet on quarterback Drake Maye. Seen as the future of the franchise, Maye will be at the center of an offense aiming to reinvent itself and compete from Day 1.
The return of key figures like Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels to the coaching staff signals a clear commitment to restoring the team’s identity and discipline. Their experience will be vital in guiding a young roster through high-pressure moments throughout the season.
To support their rebuild, the Patriots used their recent draft pick on offensive lineman Will Campbell, adding much-needed protection up front. With a renewed foundation, the team is determined to challenge the Bills’ dominance in the AFC East and return to serious contention in the conference.
