The New York Rangers are nearing the end of the regular season, but not before giving Matthew Robertson the opportunity to make his debut and finally become a ‘professional’ with the team he himself stated he’s always wanted to play for since joining the club.
Playing defense for a team like the Rangers is no easy feat, but Robertson made it clear that all of his teammates were very welcoming, making his NHL debut with the team a positive experience and saying “Something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.” It was one of his memorable quotes after the game.
Robertson described how he’d wanted to debut with the Rangers ever since being drafted over five years ago. He admitted to some pre-game jitters, but those nerves gradually subsided as the game went on. “Each period I got less nervous, guys made the transition very seamless,” he explained.
Adam Fox Smoothed Robertson’s Path in Rangers Debut
One of the players who reportedly aided Robertson in his first game with the Rangers was fellow defenseman Adam Fox. According to Robertson, seeing his teammate provided a sense of relief, knowing he would have a veteran presence alongside him for his debut.
“Just seeing that this morning, being paired with Adam Fox. He made it a lot easier for me to just jump in there and just focus on my game. One of the best D-men in the league and something I’ll remember forever.”
