The Detroit Red Wings are still fighting in this NHL season, and after their big win over the Boston Bruins, the hope of securing a playoff spot remains alive. Cam Talbot was a key figure in the victory, and he knows that if they keep this up, qualification should not be at risk.
A big part of why the final result at Little Caesars Arena ended 2-1 is due to the performance of the Red Wings‘ goalie, who finished the game with 20 saves, being one of the standout players of the match.
Once the game was over, it was Talbot himself who, in conversation with the press, made it clear that qualification is likely to become a reality if he and his teammates continue to perform at this level for the remainder of the regular season.
“We have to stay on an even keel,” said Talbot via NHL.com. “This is a big, emotional win, but we have to go on the road now and we can’t get too low or too high. If we keep playing our game, I like our chances.”

Dominik Shine #50, Marco Kasper #92 and Lucas Raymond #23 of the Detroit Red Wings celebrate a goal scored by Raymond during the third period against the Ottawa Senators at Little Caesars Arena on March 27, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan.
McLellan praised Talbot’s performance
In many team sports, having a top-tier, talented goalie is key. In this case, the Red Wings can rest easy, especially their coach Todd McLellan, as Talbot is having an outstanding season and can bring a lot of joy to this team.

After Detroit’s victory over the Boston Bruins, who couldn’t break through the opponent’s net, coach McLellan spoke with the press and expressed confidence due to the level his goalie is currently playing at.
“I think it started with the confidence (Talbot) gave the rest of the group,” Red Wings coach said via NHL.com. “He wasn’t bombarded, but when he had to make a really big save – like that one at the end – he made it.”
