The tennis world is still buzzing from the electrifying final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros. The Spanish phenom clinched a dramatic victory, winning in a fifth-set super tiebreak to secure his fifth Grand Slam title. With the win, Alcaraz retained the title he first claimed last year in Paris, becoming the first to do so since Rafael Nadal in 2020.

However, despite Alcaraz’s triumph, it’s Sinner who made a leap in the ATP rankings. The Italian extended his lead at the top, earning 500 additional points for his runner-up finish. Alcaraz, while defending his 2,000 points from last year, missed the chance to narrow the gap further on Sinner, who remains the World No.1.

Elsewhere, the rankings saw several other major changes. Taylor Fritz’s early exit in the first round of Roland Garros resulted in a three-spot drop to No.7. His slip allowed Jack Draper, Novak Djokovic, and Lorenzo Musetti to move up one position each, now ranking fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Another notable climber was Tommy Paul. The American reached the quarterfinals, where he was stopped by Alcaraz, earning an additional 300 points to rise four places to No. 8.

Conversely, Alexander Zverev, who fell in the quarterfinals to Djokovic, held onto his No. 3 spot despite losing 900 ranking points. However, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas weren’t as fortunate—Ruud dropped eight spots to No. 16, while Tsitsipas slipped from No. 20 to No. 26.

What’s next on the ATP Tour?

With Alcaraz’s victory closing out the clay court season, the tennis calendar now shifts to grass. The prestigious Wimbledon tournament looms large as the centerpiece of the grass-court season, while other notable events like the Queen’s Club Championships and the Halle Open, both offering 500 ranking points, will also draw attention.

This week, the BOSS Open in Stuttgart and the Libema Open in the Netherlands kick off the grass season, each awarding 250 points to the winner. The race for rankings supremacy is far from over.
