According to a report from Mike Florio, Kirk Cousins could be open to move with his family to Atlanta and play for the Falcons. However, many people on social media didn’t believe the information and that produced a very controversial answer by the insider.

Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is still months away from us but the rumor mill is already in full swing. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/baker-mayfield">Baker Mayfield</a> is one of the most interesting quarterbacks heading into the open market, which is why the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> are reportedly interested in his services.



It makes sense, since the Foxborough franchise has struggled at quarterback since <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tom-brady">Tom Brady</a> left in 2020 and Mayfield did a great job replacing the 7x Super Bowl at the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tampa-bay-buccaneers">Tampa Bay Buccaneers</a> last year. Besides, Mayfield knows newly-appointed Patriots’ offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt from his time with the Browns.



“Alex Van Pelt was the offensive coordinator in Cleveland with Mayfield in 2020 and 2021. Given those connections, it’s not surprising the Patriots would be interested in signing Mayfield, who will be a free agent after a Pro Bowl season in Tampa,” Graff wrote.



However, it looks like the interest is not mutual. According to the report, the former first-overall pick would prefer other teams before considering the Patriots. Those options might be to stay in Tampa, join the Minnesota Vikings or sign with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/atlanta-falcons">Atlanta Falcons</a>.

Early indications are that Mayfield plans to consider other options — likely the Buccaneers, Vikings and Falcons — before the Patriots could become serious contenders for his services,” Graff wrote. “He could command more than $30 million per year, according to a league source. <h2>Patriots, Mayfield may not be the ideal match for each other this offseason</h2>



While Mayfield would be an interesting target for any team looking for a quarterback considering how great he played for the Bucs in 2023, the Patriots have another path to get a signal-caller for the long term.



With the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, New England can start from scratch with a young QB to try and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-rumors-patriots-leave-mac-jones-future-in-new-england-up-in-the-air-20240222-BUS-106828.html">leave behind its struggles with Mac Jones</a> and Bailey Zappe in the last couple of years.



In that scenario, it would make more sense for the Patriots to sign a veteran quarterback who can mentor the rookie and even start the season before handing the baton to the newcomer.



Mayfield is seeking a lucrative contract after proving his worth last year, and the Bucs are expected to do whatever it takes to continue with him under center. Therefore, the most likely path for the Pats this offseason is drafting a first-round QB while signing an experienced QB to help him adjust to the NFL. But only time will tell us.

The team gave up a lot to get the veteran quarterback from the Seattle Seahawks in 2022, but Wilson looked like a shell of himself in Denver. Not even Sean Payton’s arrival in 2023 could fix the offense, so the franchise simply gave up on Wilson before having to afford his salary for yet another year.



But while the Broncos no longer believe the 35-year-old is the right guy for the job, it’s safe to say a number of teams could see him as the answer to their offensive struggles. Let’s take a look at some of those clubs.



<h2>Raiders</h2>



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-raiders">Las Vegas Raiders</a> have emerged as a possible landing spot for Wilson as soon as the news broke. It make sense, since we’re talking about a franchise that comes from a terrible experience with Jimmy Garoppolo at QB1 in 2023.

The Raiders are starting an exciting era with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/antonio-pierce">Antonio Pierce</a> as head coach, and while Aidan O’Connell made an impression last year, Wilson would still mean an upgrade (on paper). The opportunity to land a former Super Bowl champ for nothing could be too good for Las Vegas to pass on, but only time will tell us.

Newly hired head coach Raheem Morris has <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/falcons-hc-raheem-morris-throws-desmond-ridder-taylor-heinicke-under-the-bus-20240227-BUS-107747.html">made that clear</a> heading into 2024, so Wilson could be the perfect target for the team.



After 14 years with Matt Ryan at quarterback, Atlanta has struggled to find stability at the position. Marcus Mariota left a lot to be desired in 2022, but Desmond Ridder couldn’t win the job in 2023 either.

With the new head coach admitting poor quarterback play last season, the only thing that remains to be seen is who will be the new signal-caller in Atlanta. Wilson could be a great option to improve in the short term, so we’ll have to wait and see.



<h2>Steelers</h2>



Perhaps the team that has been linked the most with him this offseason, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/pittsburgh-steelers">Pittsburgh Steelers</a> and Russell Wilson could make a perfect match. Kenny Pickett still has many believers, but others claim it’s time to make a win-now move and the former Seahawks star could provide just that.

We’ve got so many avenues right now because we have free agency money, we have the ability to trade, whether it be trade for a player with a team, or be it trade up or back in the draft. It’s just really about the different scenarios you want to have at the quarterback position.”

<h2>QB situation a big challenge for Morris in Atlanta</h2>



The 19th head coach in franchise history, Morris faces the task of turning the Falcons around after years of misery. He arrives in Atlanta with a strong reputation from his time with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-rams">Los Angeles Rams</a>, where he served as defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023.



In fact, Morris has such an interesting profile that the Falcons chose him over former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> coach and six-time Super Bowl champion <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/bill-belichick">Bill Belichick</a>, who interviewed twice for the job.



Morris’ work in LA included the Rams’ <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> victory in 2022, with their defense ranking fourth in red zone efficiency rating and seventh in fewest rushing yards per game in the league over the last three seasons.

“Atlanta would be tough. The only con of going back home is just people hitting my phone crazy, wanting tickets to the game,” Fields said. “I think they got a lot of playmakers on the team.”



Fields raved about the plethora of young offensive talent in Georgia, and he knows he could be a seamless fit next to the guys they’ve taken in the first round in the past three drafts:



“Of course, Bijan [Robinson]. They got my boy Kyle [Pitts] there. Of course, Drake [London]. They probably need one more receiver, but they definitely got some guys over there. And their defense was good this year, too,” Fields continued.

“The Falcons have shown that they are interested in a lot of people and in their own words, they described to me over the weekend that their coaching search after they met with Belichick for a second time is ‘wide open’. So, if it’s wide open after you’ve met with Bill Belichick twice, that certainly tells you that he’s not the favorite for the job,” Schefter said.



Later on Thursday, Schefter reported the Falcons are planning to hire Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, who already served as interim head coach for Atlanta in 2020, as their new head coach. That leaves Belichick with even less options.



<h2>Belichick may not get a new head coaching job at all</h2>



With one of the best résumés a coach in any sport can boast, Belichick was expected to have countless offers on the table as soon as he left New England. But many teams have already filled their vacancies, which is why Schefter believes Belichick may ultimately not land a new head coaching job for 2024.

<h2>Belichick’s Atlanta Falcons’ Candidacy ‘Lost Momentum’</h2>



“Atlanta reportedly views the former New England Patriots head coach as a “top candidate,” especially after Belichick had two meetings with Arthur Blank and had a second interview with the team,” wrote Ounpraseuth. “However, the 71-year-old’s candidacy for the job has “lost momentum this past week,” according to The Athletic’s Josh Kendall. Sources also told The Athletic “that assuming it’s Belichick or bust” is inaccurate.”



The Falcons are also keeping tabs on Houston Texans’ Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik, and reports state that they were left quite impressed with him after their first interview and would conduct a second one.



<h2>Belichick Might Not Even Get A Job</h2>



Belichick hasn’t gauged a lot of attention around the league since becoming a free agent. Now, NFL insider Peter King recently questioned if Belichick would get a job at all. 



“I believe we’ve all assumed Belichick was going to get a high-quality job, or at least, in the case of the Falcons, a decent job,” King wrote. “Now the question is: Will he get one at all? Seems the Falcons are open to opening up this search after two meetings with the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach.”

Ironically, the insider believes that the lack of interest in his services may have made the Falcons reconsider their stance on him. Perhaps the rest of the league believes his tactics and ways are outdated:



“I also think the Falcons must be thinking, If we hold Belichick in high regard, why does no other team? He’s had no other interviews, at least not any we know of,” King wrote. “It’s weird. Maybe teams sniffing around coaches don’t think hiring a soon-to-be 72-year-old guy regardless of resume is such a good idea. We shall see.”

On Tuesday’s edition of “Good Morning Football”, Newton was asked by Brandon Marshall about his top three landing spots. The answer shocked everyone, as he chose Atlanta, direct rivals of the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South.



“It’s not even three,” Newton said. “It’s just really one. Me having a family now, it’s always been about family and I don’t see myself leaving Atlanta. If it’s not Atlanta, I don’t want to [come back].”

The Falcons have faced quarterback challenges since Matt Ryan’s departure in 2022. Currently, Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder are at the helm of the offense, frequently switching roles between starter and backup.
