Kansas Jayhawks men’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> head coach Bill Self broke his silence after undergoing a heart-related procedure. Self, 62, has been with the Jayhawks since 2003, taking the team to four Final Fours and two national championships during his 22-year tenure with the program.



The coach was released from the hospital Saturday, two days after having two stents inserted. He was admitted to LMH Health on Thursday following “some concerning symptoms.”



In a statement shared by CBS Sport reporter Jon Rothstein on July 26, Self provided a positive update regarding his health, while thanking the hospital for taking care of him.

“I want to thank all the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” Self said. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and look forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

Back in 2023, Self missed the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments after he was hospitalized due to chest tightness and balance concerns. At the time, he had two stents placed for blocked arteries and underwent a heart catheterization.



Coach Self and the Jayhawks have renewed expectations for the new season, more so after landing projected top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Darryn Peterson.

Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks are bracing for a new NCAA season after posting a 21-13 overall record, being eliminated in the Big 12 tournament’s quarterfinal by the Arizona Wildcats and then by the Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round of the NCAA tournament.&nbsp;



The Jayhawks will have another No. 1 recruit on the roster for the 2025-26 season, Darryn Peterson, who became a sensation during his high school career. Peterson arrived at Lawrence on Wednesday to start summer school classes and team workouts, set to begin on Monday.&nbsp;

“I’m probably as excited about coaching him as I have anybody that I’ve ever recruited,” Self said.&nbsp;“I think he’s probably the most prepared, equipped 18-year-old I’ve had the chance to recruit,” the coach added.&nbsp;
