More than 40 games into the MLB regular season, New York Yankees fans will see Juan Soto back on the field, only this time, he’ll be wearing a New York Mets jersey. After standing out in last season’s American League Championship Series, Soto returns to what was his home in 2024.
The Subway Series kicks off Friday and runs through the weekend, bringing the usual city rivalry, and the added twist of Soto’s return to Yankee Stadium. After posting impressive numbers during his time in pinstripes, Soto now looks to build on that legacy with the Mets.
Ahead of the series opener, Soto spoke with New York Post columnist Jon Heyman about what it means to return to Yankee Stadium. He made a bold statement about the fan base and how he expects to be received when he steps up to the plate.
“It’s going to be 50,000 against one. They’re going to try to get on me, you know. It’s part of it. Whatever they do, they have the right to do it. I’m just going to go out there and do my stuff. I’m just going to try to focus on my game,” Soto said.
Yankees fans react to Soto’s message
On social media, Soto’s recent message quickly made the rounds among Yankees fans, many of whom are eagerly awaiting his return to Yankee Stadium. One fan commented, “It will be one wild weekend, Soto starting Friday. At the end of the day, he chose the money. The fans will cheer and boo no matter what happens.” Excitement and mixed emotions are building as the first game of the series approaches.
Another fan wrote, “Soto isn’t worth $765M, lmfao. Hope they throw at him, but they don’t need to because we know he’s just gonna ground out to first base.” A separate post on X read, “We knew he wasn’t very smart, but how does he not know Mets fans will also be at the game in NY?”
Given the buzz surrounding his record-breaking deal with the Mets, Soto will return to Yankee Stadium wearing a different jersey for the first time. The anticipation is high, and fans will be watching closely when he steps up to the plate.
