The Golden State Warriors are one of the teams to watch every single day in the NBA right now. They feature one of the greatest players to ever do it, a top-notch defenseman with an incredible IQ, and a coach that’s proven to be an all-time great already. However, that hasn’t translated into the season they envisioned a couple of months ago, even though Stephen Curry never ceases to amaze. Sadly, the rest of the supporting cast has yet to show up and they’re not winning many games if that trend stays that way.
Obviously, they need Curry to be at his best every single night out there. They need him to continue carrying the load and leading their team, but he’s just a man and he can’t win on his own. No one can.
That’s why his coach Steve Kerr has decided to have him under a strict 35-minute restriction as of now. They’re planning ahead to the rest of the season and don’t want to wear him out so early on the year.
Steve Kerr Says He Needs To Keep Stephen Curry Fresh
“I’m into the long game. We’re counting on having Steph here a long time — many, many years ahead … so we’re going to stay very disciplined and try to keep him at that 34, 35 minute mark,” Kerr said, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic
“Steph’s a grown up. He’s an incredible teammate. He has full awareness of what we’re doing right now and what this season is about…Steph’s not frustrated. He doesn’t like to lose, he’s a big time competitor, but he’ll hang in,” the coach added, as per Nick Friedell of ESPN.
That’s reasonable, but there won’t be many things to play for later in the season unless they start winning games now. That means they need to make some moves, their role players must step up, and Curry must be unleashed.
