Cam Newton explains why the New England Patriots are struggling so badly

Following an impressive and encouraging start to the season, Cam Newton and the New England Patriots have vastly struggled over the past couple of weeks, with their offense struggling to move the chains and take care of the football.

Newton started the season on a high note and showed glimpses of his MVP level before testing positive for COVID-19 and he just hasn’t been the same player ever since he was able to come back to the field.

And his recent struggles were in full display during the Patriots’ tough loss to the San Francisco 49ers, as he could only complete 9 of 15 passes for 98 yards and 3 interceptions. Jarrett Stidham took over for him in the second half, but the team still lost 33-6.

Cam Newton Says He’s Been Pressing Too Much, Needs To Be Better

That’s why Newton had to take a deep look in the mirror and give his input on what’s going on with the Patriots recently. According to him, he’s been pressing too much and should go back to being the player he’s used to be:

“Well, I’ve just been pressing. I don’t think it’s anything with mechanics. It’s seeing the situation at hand and I caught myself just pressing too much. The energy is definitely been off for me and at times it’s not rewarding when you’re just going out there with this aura about yourself that’s not you. I love playing this football game. I have fun playing this football game, but the performances here hasn’t been somewhat delightful for me to have fun in doing so,” Newton told NBC sports.

“So I just got to be better. And a lot of things starts and stops at that position and I understand that. And I have put this team in a rut with the performances here, and yet just start over with Monday and see where it goes,” Newton concluded.

Coach Bill Belichick assured that Cam Newton will continue to be the team’s starting quarterback for Week 8 when they take on the Buffalo Bills, and in reality, Stidham didn’t do anything to prove that he should take over the starting quarterback duties, at least for the time being.
