The Arizona Cardinals are one of those many NFL franchises for whom the Super Bowl has remained elusive for many years. The bet on Kyler Murray is once again in place, but this year the quarterback might be much better supported than in previous seasons.
Trey Benson entered the league after being selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2024 draft with the 66th overall pick. After his rookie season, the former Florida State player is confident he can make a big impact now that he feels more mature and experienced.
The main issue for Benson is that ahead of him was none other than James Conner, the primary rushing weapon for Murray. However, the running back is confident that both can provide more options for their QB in the upcoming season.
“I feel like I’ll get more opportunities and help James out more,” Benson said during mandatory minicamp, per Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman. “I feel like we can have two RB1s on this team, and that’s my mindset this year is two RB1s.”
Benson’s transition in the NFL
Undoubtedly, one of the most challenging aspects for football players is the transition from college football to the NFL. The rookie season can be extremely difficult not only physically but also mentally.
“It was my rookie year and the defenses, the whole NFL, is just way quicker than college,“ Benson said. “I think that’s what it was, and my mind was just racing. I only played two years of college, so that was basically my third year of playing for real.
“I just needed to be more decisive. I was thinking too much at the beginning of the season trying to hit the home run every time. It helped with James being in my ear telling me, ‘Just take what I can get,’ take what they give me and just be a better runner.”
The Cardinals boast a fearsome offense
The Arizona Cardinals are gearing up for a promising season, with Kyler Murray aiming to deliver a standout performance. His dual-threat ability remains a critical asset, as he looks to lead an offense capable of competing at the highest level.
On the ground, James Conner will be the primary rushing weapon, expected to provide consistent production and help balance the attack. Meanwhile, Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. are set to be key targets in the passing game, offering Murray reliable options to stretch defenses vertically and create big plays.
Under head coach Jonathan Gannon, the Cardinals have a clear goal: reaching the Super Bowl, a feat the franchise hasn’t accomplished since 2009. With a strong offensive core and renewed determination, Arizona looks ready to make a deep playoff push this year.
