Despite there being no updates on Aaron Rodgers, the Pittsburgh Steelers are confident that the quarterback will sign with the team. According to a report by James Palmer, the veteran’s silence has not caused any panic at all.
“Talking to people around the league, no news is good news for the Steelers. Nothing is really moving at all and the Steelers are not panicked by that. Rodgers hasn’t made a decision in any stretch. I believe there’s still been consistent communication between Mike Tomlin and Aaron Rodgers.”
A few weeks ago, Rodgers said he couldn’t commit to any team due to personal issues within his inner circle. Despite that, recent reports indicate it’s very likely the Super Bowl champion will play one more season, and that Pittsburgh is the expected destination.
What will be Aaron Rodgers’ next team?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a major advantage in becoming Aaron Rodgers’ next team, as they are the only available option for the quarterback. Although the Saints need to strengthen the position, it doesn’t appear that the star is interested in New Orleans.
Given this scenario, Palmer says the official announcement could come in the next few weeks. In a theory shared by many insiders, mandatory minicamp could be the definitive date.
“What we need to keep an eye on is this. The Steelers are very optimistic this still is going to happen. He has yet to decide. What we want to look at is mandatory minicamp. Really, that’s when he would probably want to be there and that’s not until June 10th through the 12th. There’s not a rush to have him appear. They’re not upset if he does miss OTAs to my understanding. But, mandatory minicamp, that’s something we probably should keep an eye on.”
