Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers had the ideal scenario to select Shedeur Sanders in the third round of the 2025 Draft. While waiting for Aaron Rodgers to decide on his future, the No. 83 spot gave them the chance to address a need.
Up to that point, Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, and Tyler Shough had been the three quarterbacks selected. Those last two names had taken the Giants and Saints out of the race for Shedeur, clearing the path for Pittsburgh to target him.
The Steelers haven’t won the Super Bowl in over 16 years and never would have imagined that Deion Sanders’ son would be available in the third round. In fact, many believed they’d only find names like Jalen Milroe or Will Howard at that point.
Did Steelers draft Shedeur Sanders?
No. The Steelers didn’t draft Shedeur Sanders and, in a shocking decision, chose to go with a running back, making the call to Kaleb Johnson from Iowa in the third round. Although that move makes sense after Najee Harris’ departure, a high-graded quarterback was still available to fill that massive hole.
Now, the big question is what the Steelers will do in the fourth round and beyond. Shedeur could be available again, or they might choose to prioritize Milroe or Howard. A true mystery that has stunned the entire NFL.
