In recent days, Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned in several NFL rumors as a possible destination for Terry McLaurin. It’s important to remember that the star wide receiver was late to report to training camp because he wants a contract extension with the Commanders.
If there’s no deal reached with Washington in the coming weeks, the possibility of a trade is on the table. This was Omar Khan’s response on The Pat McAfee Show when asked whether the Steelers would be interested in another surprising move to bring McLaurin alongside DK Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers.
“I mean, you never say you’re done, but, I really like the group that we have here. We’ve done a lot this offseason. We’ll see. If there’s ever an opportunity to improve the team, we’ll think about it and talk about it, but, we feel good about the team. Our goal is to win the Super Bowl this year and every move we make is reflective of that. I understand we can’t sacrifice our future, but, we want to win the Super Bowl this year.”
Is Terry McLaurin a free agent?
Terry McLaurin is not a free agent right now. He’s still under contract with the Washington Commanders and is signed through the end of the 2025 season. That means unless something changes, the wide receiver will be a key weapon for Jayden Daniels.
However, if he doesn’t agree to a contract extension and the team chooses not to place the franchise tag on him, McLaurin would hit free agency in 2026. Until then, though, any move involving him would have to come through a trade.
That’s why his recent delay in reporting to training camp and the growing speculation about his future have sparked trade rumors with the Steelers, especially if his contract demands aren’t met soon.
