Darius Slay, new player of the Pittsburgh Steelers, explained why he decided to attend OTAs despite being free to skip them. On social media, the message has also been interpreted as a subtle shot at Aaron Rodgers.
“This is where championship football starts. Everybody has to buy in and this is the time to buy in. I know guys have family and stuff, and I have got one as well, but, if you want to be a champion, there are some things you have to sacrifice. I want to be here on time. Be present. Let guys see my face and show guys it’s important to be here, and I am here to win.”
Slay is one of the Steelers’ major free-agent signings after winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles. Meanwhile, Rodgers still hasn’t made a decision, and many reports indicate that the locker room is starting to lose patience.
Why has Aaron Rodgers not signed with Steelers?
Aaron Rodgers has publicly stated that the reason he hasn’t signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers is due to issues with his inner circle. In fact, during an interview with Joe Rogan, the quarterback admitted that people close to him are battling cancer.
However, many insiders who know Rodgers well have emphasized that, throughout his career, the quarterback has not been fond of early preparation stages like OTAs or mandatory minicamps in the spring. Because of that, the standoff could extend until July and the start of training camp in Latrobe.
