The Pittsburgh Steelers should trade Mike Tomlin. According to Damien Woody, who won the Super Bowl twice with the Patriots, that move is necessary for the team to finally pursue the franchise quarterback of the future.
“Coming into the offseason, I said that the Pittsburgh Steelers should seriously entertain trading Mike Tomlin. I really felt like the Steelers should have traded Mike Tomlin for a couple of reasons. Number one, Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. Think about that. It’s been almost a decade since the Steelers, the six-time Super Bowl champions, have won a playoff game. That’s a long time.”
At the moment, the Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers, but in the long term, there is no clear plan for who could ultimately succeed Ben Roethlisberger. Although all signs point to the 2026 Draft, there are no guarantees that they will select the right player.
Will Mike Tomlin be fired?
No. Mike Tomlin won’t be fired because he’s under contract with the Steelers through the 2027 season. However, Woody insists that the team’s ownership should consider trading their best asset in order to find the star quarterback they need.
“If you’re the Pittsburgh Steelers’ organization, how can we navigate ourselves to get a franchise quarterback? Because you can’t, ultimately in this league, you can’t win a championship without a franchise quarterback. You gotta find a way to go and get that guy. Well, what’s the one piece that you could possibly flip to get that? I know, trading a coach, that’s a gamble. But, if I can go out here and get the quarterback, everything else solves itself. So, if I’m the Pittsburgh Steelers, I would have traded Mike Tomlin.”
