Mike Tomlin reiterated in an interview with NFL Network why the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Derrick Harmon instead of Shedeur Sanders with their first-round pick in the 2025 Draft. In response to rumors about Aaron Rodgers possibly being ready to sign with the team, this was the head coach’s answer regarding their decision at the No. 21 spot.

“As you guys can see, not only in that pick, but all our others, there’s a commitment here with this draft group to reestablish physicality and big man presence. And, certainly, Derrick Harmon fits that bill. We like his physical stature, we like his style of play. It’s just what we covet and what we need.”

The Steelers did select a quarterback in the Draft, but it was in the sixth round with the No. 185 overall pick (Will Howard). Considering that Omar Khan promised four players in that position for the roster, only one spot remains available, which would be for Rodgers.

Who did the Steelers pick in 2025 Draft?

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked seven players in the 2025 Draft: Derrick Harmon (DT), Kaleb Johnson (RB), Jack Sawyer (EDGE), Yahya Black (DT), Will Howard (QB), Carson Bruener (LB), and Donte Kent (CB).

Now, the final big decision depends on Aaron Rodgers. If the veteran signs, he will be the starting quarterback. If that doesn’t happen, the other alternative would be a trade for Kirk Cousins with the Falcons.
